If you’re familiar with Premier Protein it’s likely you’ve discovered that many people use the shakes to add to their coffee. This is an awesome way to add a lot of protein to your coffee and create a meal that will benefit your dieting goals!
Adding protein to your coffee changes your ordinary cup of Joe into a more balanced meal replacement shake. This has several benefits whether your goal is to gain muscle, lose weight, or supply yourself with nutrients to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Think about it, if any of that applies to you and you are already drinking coffee on a regular basis, then adding protein is going to be something you want to look into.
The only issue I’ve encountered with adding Premier Protein or even Muscle Milk to my coffee is that it can become pricey continuously buying the individual shakes.
Of course, you can always purchase them in bulk at a wholesale store or on Amazon to save money. However, I’ve had more success using my own protein powders and creating my own protein coffee creamer at home. Although when you’re busy and away from home utilizing the pre-bottled Shakes is clearly advantageous!
Money Saving Protein Hack for Premier Protein Coffee
Making Protein Coffee creamer has been apart of my diet plan since I’ve began my fitness journey. It just made sense to use protein powder instead of regular coffee creamer considering I was having coffee every morning, to begin with.
So when I began tracking my fitness on Instagram I noticed the Premier Protein coffee trend and decided to start sharing how I make my protein coffee. It’s extremely simple and can make for a delicious snack first thing in the morning.
Protein Creamer Instructions
All you need is about a half cup of milk/ almond milk or whatever your favorite base liquid is for your normal protein shake. I prefer almond milk because it’s low calorie and I’ve had the best experiences using it with my shakes. ( best flavor IMO) Make sure to check out my previous article on discussing the best liquid to use for your protein shake!
What you need
1/2 Cup almond milk
1 scoop of protein powder
1 smoothie blender or hand mixer
Any plain black coffee
Instructions
- Simply add your milk into your smoothie blender ( I use my Magic Bullet, the Nutri Bullet Pro, or the Ninja Nutri Pro)
- Add your protein powder on top of the liquid, and blend for a few seconds.
- Add the creamer into your coffee and then pour some back into the mixer, give it a shake and pour it into the coffee again.
- This will allow any of the remaining creamer in your mixer to become fully absorbed into the coffee and avoid wasting your creamer.
That’s really all there is to it! Using the smoothie blender will create a thick coffee creamer that will easily mix into any coffee. The small blenders I recommended are great for this and are easy to clean up!
I highly recommend trying them out as you can do this with a shaker bottle as well however, I’ve noticed that the texture isn’t as good and you always have a bit of clump left at the top. If you’re having issues with clumpy protein shakes you can read my article on how to make a clump-free protein shake here!
Best Protein Powder Alternatives to Use in Your Coffee
This is based on personal preference and experience but the main thing to keep in mind is to use a protein powder that you truly enjoy.
Depending on your goals you can look for a protein powder that works for you. For example, if you’re trying to build muscle then you want a powder with a lot of protein and a good amount of amino acids such as Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Protein.
Or if you’re trying to make it a meal replacement shake I’d look for a protein powder that has a lot of vitamins as well as protein such as Beach Bodies Shakeology Protein Powder.
If you’re watching your calories but need more protein in your diet you can look for isolate proteins to keep the calories low and use almond milk instead of regular milk to keep them minimal as well.
If you’re looking for a variety of flavors and whey alternatives I highly suggest trying 1up nutrition line of protein powders. They have everything from Whey, to vegan plant-based powders and even an egg white protein powder! They also have a huge variety of delicious flavors!
Again make sure it’s a protein powder and flavor you really enjoy and your coffee will be amazing. No matter what you use I promise this coffee is going to be a great anabolic alternative to Starbucks with a fraction of the calories and sugar!
Why Add Protein to Your Coffee?
I’ve been doing this for a while and the through experimentation I’ve found this to be advantageous to my muscle building, and weight loss goals.
Drinking coffee is a great way to give yourself a kick start in the morning or even get some energy to tackle your early morning workouts. So adding protein into your coffee is another great addition to support these demands.
It’s also great to use as a meal replacement when heading to work or on your lunch break. Living busy lives and being on a fast-paced schedule can make it difficult to make healthy food choices through your busy day.
Often times we find ourselves settling for high calorie and sugar coffee and a pastry as our early morning breakfast.
The issue with this is that although coffee with milk may have some protein however, not nearly enough compared to the amount of calories and carbs in such meals. So adding protein in your coffee can easily transform your early morning snack into a better-balanced meal.
I feel a lot better about my bagel and coffee breakfast when I’m getting protein in my coffee with much less calories and an equal amount of protein.
Using Protein Coffee to Build Muscle
After a night of sleeping your body has fasted for several hours. When your goal is to increase your muscle gains you want to make sure you fuel the muscle-building process when you wake up.
This can become difficult when we have tasks to complete in the morning and don’t have enough time to make a balanced breakfast.
This is why I have my protein coffee first thing in the morning to help continued muscle growth and to buy time to plan and make a balanced breakfast later on.
How to Lose Weight With Protein Coffee
When our goal is to lose weight must be in a calorific deficit. Obviously we can simply eat less to achieve this however, if you’ve found success losing weight before you must know exercise is also important to achieving your goals.
If you’re working out to lose weight you still must supply yourself with the proper nutrients while managing your calorie intake. This is why protein coffee is great for weight loss.
Instead of eating a huge meal you can easily replace meals with protein coffee or add it into your normal breakfast. This protein coffee literally has under 200 Cal compared to a grande Starbucks caramel macchiato which has 250 Cal and much less protein and much more sugar and fat.
When going about losing weight I always tell people to enjoy your diet. If you aren’t enjoying it you aren’t going to stay consistent. The flavor this coffee holds will rival your favorite Starbucks coffee depending on how you make it. But I guarantee you will enjoy it and you are going to want to add this into your daily meal plan!
Conclusion
The bottom line is adding protein powder to your coffee or using Muscle Milk or Premier Protein Shakes when on the go is a great alternative to sugary high-calorie coffees.
Using protein powder and milk to make your own high protein coffee will definitely save you money if this is going to be something you consistently use.
